Random Design

This is just a random design I did, it was a quick job with a paint bucket. I wanted to use uplifting bright colours. The theme I went for is tribal/forest.

Project: Rainy Days [Stage 4]

This is final stage, all that remains is to mark the space where the name of the album and of the artist will go and to move the postions of the hands, flowers etc.

For the font I choose something simple, I think this goes along well with the general feel. I try different colours but white seems like the best because it stands out. I add some sample text for the artist and album name. Oh and of course I add a copyright on the bottom :P

Finally I flatten the image and I'm done!

Project: Rainy Days [Stage 3]

The image as it is now looks quite plain, I want to add some depth to it and to so I'll be adding a texture. I remember that I have some photos of rain, a shuffle through and find one, it looks similar to the one on the right (it is from Through The Eyes...). After adjusting the brightness and contrast I set the layer property to 'multiply', this way it merges in with the background image.

I don't like the way the drops on the light grey bit of the image so I change the layer order and have the light grey on top of the background layers.

The top left looks empty. I try to add different things in that corner like the moon, little designs and other trinklets. None of these seem 'natural'. I play around with the idea of the flowers being picked, I go along with that and end up with some (slightly creepy) skeletal hands. They can be made by simply varying the pressure - I find this to be the most effective and if you choose the right colours you can make them look like x-rays.

The cover is nearly finished, all it needs now are a few minor touches which I'll explain in the next post.

Project: Rainy Days [Stage 2]

Okay, so I've decided that I want to make an album cover out that flower. I save the original and make a new file, the standard CD cover is 4.75" w x 4.715" h (TeachingArt.org).

I move the flower to the corner because its too dominating in the middle and distracts me from thinking.
I don't like working with white or tranparent backgrounds so I just use grey and make a few brush strokes, enough to cover the flower. I like the look of what I've just done but the white is overpowering; I add a darker shade of grey in the white area and already I've got a drab look - something associated with rain + rainy days.

The flower without a stem and floating in space looks a bit strange so I just move it further down to hide the bottom. Since its no longer the center of attention I decide to add a few more flowers: just copy and paste the original. But of course not all can be black so I just change the opacities/fill and place them them around the original.

I don't like the the light grey and dark grey next to each other so I move them back a little to reveal the white background. This serves as a nice dividing line and help draw attention to the image.

That's that so far and now its time for a break!

Project: Rainy Days [Stage 1]

This is a little something I'm working on, it's inspired by the recent rain.

The idea just started off with this little sketch that I did (originally on paper). Then I did a little digital sketch (left). I thought about adding colour to this but just out of instinct I went for all black and I quite liked it.

After doing the above I didn't like the stem because it seemed out of place, so instead of redrawing it I just got rid of it completely (it was the lazy way out :P).

In the end I'm left with the image on the right, I was thinking of maybe doing a post card or CD cover with it.

Monster

This is a quick sketching and painting job that I did, no detail or such; looks a little flat, especially the nose. I chose colour that complement each other, it seemed to have worked!

Attempt At Clouds

This is my attempt at painting clouds. This based on what I saw recently (apart from the bit on the far right of the painting). I've tried to capture the pinkish undertone of a hidden sun and the greyness before rain.

Lots Of Faces

Random little thing that I did, I think it looks interesting and attractive from a distance but up close its not that great. But looking at it gave me a few ideas so its all good. I think I need to learn some colour theory though!

This is what a got from a doddle, maybe it will lead to a good illustration? I can only hope...

Insect/Alien Thingy

This is a insect-alien thing, it reminds me of a grasshopper without the antena. It's done in watercolour and I've added a pattern like thing on its face for texture.

I'm not a very good artist when it come to normal media and when its digital art I'm even worse but I'm hoping the idiom 'practice makes perfect' will hold true.

Rough Sketch #1

This is made quite quickly from a sketch, a combination of water colours and basic shapes have been used to make this image, I've tried adding some shading but not very successfully. I tried to upload this yesterday but Blogger failed me, oh well.

Purple Man Profile

This is an image I made from a quick sketch that just came to my head. I used simple shapes and such for colour because I'm still getting used to all this and to using my graphics tablet.

The top of the hair is a bit weird I know, but it was only a quick thing.
